Sing-a-long with Sherrie!

We invited local singing group, 2+1, and Avery Ambassador Sherrie Hewson to our Sing-a-long Open Day at Avonmere Care Home, Bristol on Monday 19th November.

2+1 is a family singing group, run by Joanne Sheard, who is also a carer at Avonmere; they have been performing at the home since February 2018.

We decorated our home with a red carpet, creating a Hollywood theme, and the reception area was beautifully decorated with balloons, stars and table decorations. There was a lovely buffet for everyone, including home-baked sausage rolls and cakes, with fruit juices and wine.

Sherrie arrived in style, welcomed into the home with an introduction from Avery Operations Manager, Joanne Elliott, before she made a speech to residents, staff, family and friends about how welcomed she felt and how it was a pleasure to visit our homes and meet with the residents and staff.

The first song ‘My Cherie Amour’ was played by our talented singing group, and Sherrie danced with one of the singers, before quickly announcing that she would prefer to be a backing singer and dancer as her vocal skills weren’t as good as 2+1’s. Our residents’ choir also sung some songs for Sherrie.

Sherrie sang with the group, chatted with the residents in the lounge and visited some in their own rooms. Sherrie even sat in the nail salon and had a natter with a resident while she was getting her nails painted. The residents enjoyed every minute of the afternoon, along with the visits from family members and friends.

Our Manager, Janet Welsh said, “The afternoon was fantastic, the atmosphere was really uplifting, everyone was laughing and smiling and it was a lovely experience for all. The residents totally enjoyed having Sherrie here, and she was encouraging everyone to have their photograph taken which they all thought was great fun!”
