RBL Cookbook Winner: Absolutely Spiffing!
In honour of the Royal British Legion’s centenary this year, and in line with the release of their veteran cookbook – ‘Cooking with Heroes: The Royal British Legion Centenary Cookbook’, Avery held a competition whereby residents were invited to share their favourite childhood food memories. Residents Eileen Stagg and Joan Barnett at Newcross Care Home in Wolverhampton were delighted to share one of the prized cookbooks.
Watch Eileen read an ‘Absolutely Spiffing’ poem below:
Absolutely Spiffing!
By
Eileen Stagg and Joan Barnett
We often had dripping,
It tasted rather spiffing,
We had it on toast, or maybe fried bread,
“It’s awfully good for you”,
Mum often said.
Mum’s potatoes tasted great,
She served them on a plate,
Cooked in dripping,
They tasted rather spiffing!
So let it be,
Why don’t YOU try some for your tea,
Lovely pork or beef dripping,
It’s absolutely SPIFFING!!
