The team at Astbury Manor Care Home celebrate Christmas Light Switch On banner hero
Company News, Astbury Manor, Bracknell, Berkshire

The Christmas season’s in full swing at Astbury Manor!

The Big Christmas Light Switch On at Astbury Manor Care Home, Bracknell was a huge success! All our residents and relatives had a jolly afternoon with music, lights and afternoon tea, accompanied by a glass of sherry with Avery Ambassador, Stage and TV actress Sherrie Hewson! The Mayor of Bracknell, Councillor Pauline McKenzie, and her husband also joined in the festive activities.

Sherrie was friendly and engaging, mixing and chatting with residents and their relatives, creating a real fun-filled afternoon; they especially loved taking photos with her. One relative said: “What a lovely lady, she has so much energy”.

Staff and residents decorated the home with lots of festive lights in the ground floor lounge and around reception to ensure we created a big impact when Sherrie officially switched them on. Festive garlands adorned the room and the Christmas tree had been decorated with a gold theme. One staff member was in awe of the decorations stating: “I’ve never seen the home look so beautiful!”

The Mayor and her husband were especially complimentary, loving the feel and the atmosphere of the home. They were both very impressed with the facilities and communal areas of Astbury Manor. The Mayor commented: “What a lovely homely atmosphere, you can feel it as soon as you walk in”.

A local choir group called The Bracknell Singers sang Christmas carols for us, which everyone sang along to, putting us all in the Christmas spirit.

Our award-winning chefs also prepared afternoon tea, consisting of quiche, sausage rolls, a selection of sandwiches, cupcakes and cakes. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the nibbles and drinks.

Home Manager Juliet Gallop said: “I would like to thank everyone who came to Astbury Manor to attend our BIG Christmas Light Switch On, it was a fantastic afternoon. All the preparation & timings went perfectly, and Sherrie and the Mayor were marvellous.”
