Avalon Court’s Drama Divas
When Kay Stone, Well-being and Activities Co-ordinator at Avalon Court, began her role five years ago, she discovered many residents had a keen interest in drama. Some had taught drama during their careers, whilst others had never performed before. Kay established the ‘Drama Divas’, teaching a variety of acting, movement and physical theatre techniques each Wednesday and encouraging residents to add their own creative flair.
After lots of hard work throughout last year, the group performed their own version of the hit musical ‘Grease’ on 1st February to a wonderful audience, including Sandra Fulton, Joint Clinical Quality Lead for Care Provision, who was amazed at the residents’ talent and creativity. Speaking of their performance, Kay stated, “It’s wonderful for residents to enjoy a creative outlet together. They were mighty proud of their achievement, and they are a very talented team. I am also a Community Outreach Drama Specialist, and it is a privilege to share my professional skills within my role at Avalon Court.” The Drama Divas are now hard at work for their next production and will perform ‘Oliver’ in December.
