Acer Court celebrate World Book Day with celebrity Sherrie Hewson!

On Thursday 5th March for World Book Day, Acer Court Care Home welcomed Avery Ambassador Sherrie Hewson, and local school children from Horsendale Primary School to take part in a creative writing competition.

The home was decorated in eye catching colours with lots of balloons and bunting and the staff and children were all dressed as characters from their favourite books.

The event was hosted by Acer Court’s Well-being Team who asked the children questions regarding their future ambitions, and the process of creating their own literature. For those children who weren’t confident enough to read their stories aloud, Sherrie was more than happy to help out. The roles were all reversed when the residents and children started to ask Sherrie questions, with everyone keen to hear all about how she got into show business and all about her decorated career.

There was such a high-quality of imaginative writing, it was difficult to choose a winner, so we awarded all of the children who took part. Each child received a World Book Day pack which included sweets, treats and some of the best children’s books from recent years.

Throughout the event, our culinary team provided everyone with delicious sandwiches, cakes and pastries, which put a smile on everyone’s faces.

Kirstie Draper, Deputy Manager commented about the event: “I was overwhelmed by the amount of imagination and effort the pupils had put into the stories. It was clear that everyone enjoyed the day.”

Yan Jurkiewicz, our Well-Being and Activities Co-ordinator said: “It was a fantastic day filled with creativity, imagination and community spirit. It was great to see the interaction between the pupils and the residents, and everyone enjoying themselves.”
