Acacia Lodge’s Macmillan Coffee Morning with special guest Sherrie Hewson!

Staff and residents at Acacia Lodge Care Home were delighted to welcome Avery Healthcare Ambassador Sherrie Hewson to a 1920s themed Macmillan Coffee Morning event! Organised by Well-being and Activity Co-ordinators, Carol Wrigley and Lynda Kelly, the event saw staff get into the 1920s swing with themed costumes. Carol and Lynda decorated our vintage tea room in a stunning black and gold retro theme with balloons and historical photographs of jazz era fashions.

Everyone had a fantastic time as Sherrie mingled with our residents chatting enthusiastically about their lives, interests and families. She struck up a great rapport with Maureen who talked to Sherrie about her love of classic movies and TV shows, such as Downton Abbey, whilst Sherrie relayed some stories of her distinguished acting career, particularly her time on Coronation Street.

In the lounge, entertainment was provided by vocalist Janet who thrilled everyone with a selection of songs from the 1920s and 1930s. A regular visitor to Acacia Lodge, Janet sings a wide variety of songs up to the present day which the residents always enjoy. On this occasion, the 1920s theme had staff showing off their dancing skills with some Charleston dance moves! Our Regional Manager Maria Booth also joined in with the celebrations.

Food for our event included a variety of delicious cakes and biscuits made by our Head Chef, Sam, who went the extra mile for this special day, coming in at 5 am to make sure everything was fresh and ready on time for Sherrie’s arrival.

Well-Being and Activity Coordinators Carol and Lynda were thrilled about how the day turned out: “We thought the day was an enormous success. All staff helped with the organisation demonstrating brilliant teamwork and willingness to get involved. Families, residents and visitors all thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, catering and will always welcome Sherrie for another visit. Our two local Community Support Officers said it was “a brilliant day for the whole community”.

Acacia Lodge has also recently become Avery’s first care home rated as Outstanding Overall by the CQC. To keep up-to-date with our home, like our Facebook page or call 0161 688 1890.
