Birchmere House joins forces with Wythall Animal Sanctuary
Birchmere House residents and staff launched a month-long initiative to collect supplies for Wythall Animal Sanctuary in a heartening display of community spirit. Led by Home Manager Rachel Walker, Kerry Counihan Senior Wellbeing Co-ordinator, and Administrator Nicola Urry, along with enthusiastic residents, they gained support from families, staff, and the wider community. The inspiration for this initiative arose from the success of their recent collection for Solihull Food Bank. Encouraged by the positive response, Rachel, Nicola, and Kerry proposed the idea of a food bank for rescue animals, which received an overwhelming response.
The community’s generosity surpassed expectations, filling a minibus with donations, including blankets, towels, toys, and an impressive 150 food packets for Wythall Animal Sanctuary’s animals. The Avery family, friends, and supportive community members, including local paramedics, contributed to the success. The impact left Wythall Animal Sanctuary staff pleasantly surprised, with the delivered items seeming like Christmas had come early!
Birchmere House resident Geoffrey Wilson expressed emotional sentiments, stating, “This is hard to say without feeling emotional, if I’m honest, as animal rescue is a cause so close to my heart.” He described the initiative as “an unusually beautiful idea,” expressing pride that it happened in his home.
Birchmere House’s heartfelt donations embody the true spirit of the season, bringing joy to the sanctuary’s animals and the entire community. The sanctuary expressed gratitude on its Facebook page, acknowledging Birchmere House and its compassionate residents for their significant contribution.
