Mousehold View Announces Winner of Community Charity Naming Competition

Mousehold View Care Home in Norwich is opening soon and will provide residential and dementia care and respite stays that can be booked a year in advance. Steeped in history, Mousehold View is built on the original site that produced the famous Maclaren ‘Mac’ Handbags and, in later years, belonged to the world-famous Start-Rite Shoes.

Home Manager Nigel Reeve and Customer Service Manager Dan Amis launched a charity naming competition, inviting members of the local community to be part of the process. The competition has now ended, and the team are delighted to share that the winner is Valerie Gosling, who lives a short distance from Mousehold View. Valerie was presented with two cheques for charities of her choice: Nelson’s Journey and Alzheimer’s Research UK, both of which are close to her heart.

Valerie said: “The land that Mousehold View is built on was my grandfather’s and his building partners – Mr Grange’s yard in the 1930s. Between them, they built the houses and bungalows which Mousehold View overlooks and of course, you can still find vintage MacLaren Handbags to this day – if you look online of course! The site has had many uses over the years, and I thought it would be fitting to honour that past in some small way.”

Home Manager Nigel explained, “We have been overwhelmed with all the fantastic entries for our competition from the local community and we want to say a big thank you. Suggestions have included painters, rivers, parks, famous individuals local to Norwich and even different types of shoes. It is our pleasure to celebrate the rich history of our home’s site and we are delighted to officially name our home communities: The Grange Suite the MacLaren Suite and The Samuel Suite. Congratulations Valerie!”

Collecting the charity cheques from Valerie included Gary Stevens from Nelson’s Journey – which supports children and young people in Norfolk who have experienced the death of a significant person, and Molly Hindle from Alzheimer’s Research UK which is spearheading the way in Dementia Research.

Customer Service Manager Dan Amis said: “It has been amazing to meet so many local people, charities, businesses and volunteers in and around Sprowston who are doing fantastic things and providing much-needed services to the local community. I know that I speak for the whole team when I say that we cannot wait to be able to throw open our doors and welcome every one of you to see our beautiful new home and meet our residents – who are all very excited about moving in too!”
