Silvermere resident Keith Stevens wins ‘Growing Old Disgracefully’ award at NAPA 2020

Keith Stevens, 95, from Silvermere Care Home in Cobham, Surrey, has been crowned the winner of the National Activity Provider Association’s (NAPA) Growing Old Disgracefully award for his successful skydive back in March which named him one of the UK’s oldest skydivers.

NAPA’S Growing Old Disgracefully award seeks to celebrate someone who endeavours to live life to the fullest and defy all expectations. And it is fair to say Keith did just that. With the help and support of staff at Silvermere, Keith showcased his inspiring outlook on life; proving adventures like this know no age limits, and we should all grow old disgracefully!

The NAPA awards ceremony was held via a Zoom call on Friday 2nd October; the virtual event included performances from the NAPA choir, Bollywood dancing workshops with Zest Dance Workshops and speeches from several special guests, including NAPA’s Executive Director, Hillary Woodhead.

Along with some friends from the home, Keith enjoyed watching the ceremony on the big screen in Silvermere’s cinema room with prosecco and canapés. On his win, Keith said, “I’m flabbergasted to think that I won an award for something I loved doing it and raised money for charity.”

Well-being and Activities Assistant, Grace Watkins, also commented that Keith was grateful for the support of Angelica, the staff member who accompanied Keith on his skydive in March and that he was glad to raise awareness for a great cause: Macmillan Cancer Research.

Congratulations to Keith and the team at Silvermere Care Home!
