Birchwood Grange receive ‘Outstanding’ from CQC
We are proud to announce that after a vigorous and unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Birchwood Grange Care Home in Harrow has achieved an overall rating of Outstanding. Birchwood Grange is the first care home of over 100 residents to achieved such a rating of Outstanding from the CQC, and in fact, attained that rating in four out of the five assessment categories.
The CQC spent two days at the home speaking to residents, relatives, staff and visiting professionals to complete their inspection. A group of relatives told the CQC “My relative is safe. I have no qualms whatsoever. The service is excellent.” and, “We are fully involved. This is an excellent service. They are on point with my relative.” Another relative said, “The service is outstanding. Our views are respected.”
It was noted in the CQC report that care delivered at Birchwood Grange was highly regarded by visiting health professionals. Comments included, “The environment here is visually stimulating. If I was worried I wouldn’t place people here. It is an excellent home.” And, “In all the cases I have observed with staff, I have noticed high standards of care. They have a sound knowledge regarding prevention and management of pressure ulcers, including wound management and choice of dressings. Staff always follow the care plans and advice.”
Residents spoke with the CQC inspectors about their cultural and religious needs. One resident said “My spiritual needs are met. There is a temple here, if you choose you can go.” Another person said, “A woman from the local church comes in once a week.”
Home Manager, Mark Bird, is ecstatic with the result. He said, “I am beyond words to say how proud I am of my team and residents at Birchwood Grange. Our resident’s views are the most important part of this result, although we also ensure that the views of their families and friends are welcomed and included. I have been proud to lead the team here at Birchwood Grange for five years and to see it improve year on year fills me with pride and appreciation for all the hard work from those who care for our residents. I am so pleased that this has been recognised.”
