Home of the Quarter – Acer Court Care Home
This edition, we’re showcasing just a few of many fabulous initiatives taking place at Acer Court Care Home in Nottingham.
Never too Old to Wish Upon a Star
Big or small, the team at Acer Court try to make residents wishes come true. Over the last 18 months, they have arranged a piano lesson for Jean Dickens who hadn’t had a lesson since she was 14 years old, set up an owl experience for Cicely Wilde, and arranged for Ken Wilson to ride on the back of a Harley Davidson! For resident Hilda Wealthall, it was a trip to Leicester on her 101st birthday to visit her brother, who she hadn’t seen for over a year. After an emotional reunion, they spent the afternoon sharing memories over a picnic provided by Acer Court chefs.
Making a Splash!
Keen to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, Acer Court residents are frequent visitors of Victoria Park Leisure Centre in Ilkeston. From floating gracefully in the sensory pool to lengths in the main pool, the smiles the experience puts on residents’ faces are priceless. Joseph Dearman hadn’t been swimming for more than 15 years when he paid his first visit. After enjoying numerous lengths of the pool and grinning from ear to ear, Joseph said, “Nothing beats this!”
Calendar Guys
Residents get together to agree which charity they would like to support for each of their fundraising events. A new initiative for 2020 has seen the home’s gentlemen staff pose for a calendar to raise funds for local men’s health charity, Muted, who raise awareness and support depression in men. Well-being and Activities Co-ordinator, Yan said of the initiative, “Supporting a local charity is fantastic, and we all felt this was an amazing cause. We couldn’t say no when Linda asked us!”
Emma Miles, Regional Manager said, “When you walk into Acer Court, the whole home wraps around you. The staff team are friendly, caring and highly motivated led by a passionate Home Manager who always ensures that her residents are at the centre of the care the home delivers to ensure their residents have a home and quality of life that is second to none.”
