Hinckley House hosts a blooming marvellous Garden Party!
Hinckley House Care Home in Hinckley recently invited Avery Ambassador, Stage and TV actress Sherrie Hewson to a Summer Garden Party. The home was decorated in a pink colour scheme with beautiful pink and white flowers on the tables and bunting adorned the garden tables and gazebo.
On arrival, Sherrie was greeted by Amanda Stubbs (Deputy Manager), Rita Flanaghan (Regional Manager) and Keir Pedley (Well-being and Activities Manager) who presented her with a bouquet of pink sparkly flowers. Sherrie was also accompanied by Alison Allen (Home Administrator) throughout her visit when touring around the home.
We had been working on our arts in care project for several weeks prior to Sherrie’s visit, and our residents had all made feathers which were then glued together to make a beautiful peacock. Jan Kirby, the outgoing Lady Mayor, kindly offered to donate a large frame to display the residents’ artwork and Sherrie was asked to add the final feather. Sherrie quickly set about making her feather, and said she hadn’t realised she was so arty! Sherrie’s feather certainly followed our theme, being pink, sparkly and covered in diamonds.
The residents and Sherrie gathered in the garden to listen to entertainment by Gavin Burke. Gavin is a classically trained singer who we have had the pleasure of inviting to Hinckley House on several occasions. Gavin sang both classical and contemporary songs for us all. Our ladies love the attention that Gavin gives them all and he was a big hit with everyone once again with his cheeky humour. Sherrie found Gavin very amusing and thought he had a lovely voice.
Whilst Gavin was singing, Sherrie met residents and their families and spent time taking photos together. One of our residents, Louisa Barker, was thrilled when Sherrie came to say hello as she’s such a big fan of hers!
Our chefs made and served tasty canapes, miniature scones and Victoria sponges during the afternoon. Pink refreshments were also included, such as Pimm’s, strawberry prosecco and raspberry lemonade for those who didn’t want an alcoholic drink. Each drink had some iced berries in to keep us cool.
The afternoon was a great success with Sherrie telling us that it felt like a proper garden party with the décor, refreshments and entertainment. It was lovely to see how much time Sherrie spent with our residents and also speaking to our staff.
It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Sherrie into our home and we hope to see her again in her role as Ambassador.
